Russian ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov stated on Thursday that the US-headed NATO military alliance does not take the threat of nuclear war "seriously."

Commenting on the West's accusations that Moscow is the main driver of nuclear tensions, Antonov called the claims "part of a propaganda campaign launched against Russia in response to the steps taken to neutralize threats to our national security emanating from the Ukrainian territory."

Antonov also highlighted that Moscow would only resort to using weapons of mass destruction (WMD) "in response to the use of WMD against Russia and its allies, or in the event of aggression against our country, when the very existence of the state is jeopardized."
