Kiev allegedly to seek EU security guarantees after US refusal

Ukraine is considering urging the European Union to provide a "net of guarantees" after United States President Donald Trump said that his administration does not want to "make security guarantees beyond very much," Euractiv reported on Friday, citing several Ukrainian officials.

According to the report, the Ukrainian authorities' main goal would be the presence of European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine, backed by the US, with the aim of deterring Russia.

As for soft guarantees, Kiev hopes that foreign companies, especially those from the US and major European economies, will be willing to invest in Ukraine and ask their own governments for guarantees.
