Kiev cautions against lifting Russia sanctions

EPA-EFE/PRESIDENTIAL PRESS SERVICE

Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, warned against "even the slightest lifting" of sanctions against Russia.

In a statement released Saturday, he pointed out that any such discussion directly incentivizes Moscow to continue its active combat operations in Ukraine, potentially prolonging the conflict and escalating the war.

"It is a direct abandonment of a return to international law. It creates new rationales for Russia to 'outlast' the West, avoiding defeat in the war and evading ultimate accountability ... It is evident that there is no sense in escalating and proposing salvation solutions for Putin's Russia," Podolyak added.
