United States National Security Council's Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said on Thursday that the US has seen reports that Russia used hypersonic Kinzhal missiles in its latest attack on Ukraine but he did not confirm them. He told CNN that the US is aware of Russia using cruise missiles and drones, "most likely from Iran."
Kirby stated that hypersonic missiles are difficult to defend against, saying that Ukrainian air defenses are probably "limited in their ability" to shoot them down. "It's difficult to understand why you would need a hypersonic missile to hit a fixed building so far away when you have other means at your disposal," he added.
