Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov repeated on Friday that BRICS is not considering adopting a common currency. The group, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, has raised the possibility of a common currency, although Russian President Vladimir Putin warned developing the idea would take a long time.

"BRICS is talking about creating new joint investment platforms that will allow joint investments in third countries," Peskov clarified at a press conference. His remarks came amid renewed threats by United States President Donald Trump against attempts by BRICS to adopt a common currency or take any action to replace the dollar in international trade.
