It is not possible to restore relations between Russia and the United States "overnight" as they have been seriously damaged in recent years, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said at a press briefing on Tuesday, adding that "a lot of work lies ahead."
The spokesperson insisted that Moscow and Washington "need to take many small steps toward each other" to renew mutual confidence.
However, Peskov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump signaled political will to restart dialogue, "which was reduced to virtually zero under the previous [US] administration." "These measures to normalize the dialogue, first of all, the normalization of the work of our diplomatic departments on a reciprocal basis, will be discussed" in high-level negotiations set to take place in coming days, he explained.
