Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that a potential deployment of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) troops in Ukraine would lead to an escalation of the conflict.
"An absolutely dangerous trend. So the Europeans are talking about what? The deployment of NATO contingents on Ukrainian territory. And we are saying that viable regulation is possible only by taking into account and addressing the root causes of the problems related to Ukraine. And they are going to create additional root causes. What will come out of this? Nothing good," Peskov noted in an interview with Radio Mayak.
The spokesperson's remarks come after French President Emmanuel Macron said that France, the UK, and other countries providing security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible ceasefire deal do not need Russia's permission to send contingents of several thousands of troops to key positions in Ukraine.
