European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said on Thursday that euro area inflation is expected to decline further in the near term.

Speaking at a press conference in Athens, Greece, following the latest ECB monetary policy decision, Lagarde said that the Eurozone economy will likely remain weak for remainder of the 2023, but added that it should strengthen over the coming years.

Risks to the overall economy are tilted to the downside, with energy and food costs presenting the biggest potential issues for the inflation picture, she specified.
