European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said on Friday that integrated capital markets are fundamental to European market "success."
Speaking at the 33rd Frankfurt European Banking Congress, Lagarde stressed that "in the changing circumstances we face today" European vision for the development of a capital markets union (CMU) needs to become "more ambitious." In addition, the central banker underlined that the European capital market is still "fragmented" and that financial integration is currently weaker than before the financial crisis erupted.
Finally, Lagarde emphasized that the financial challenges are "immense" and that is why "the moment for action is now," adding that, to achieve success, the dedicated and determined participation of all actors, both from the public and private sectors, is needed.
