European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said on Wednesday that United States President Donald Trump's incoming tariffs will not be good for the global economy.

"We don't know what the deal will be for the rest of the world - but what we know is that it won't be good for the global economy," Lagarde said in an interview on the Irish radio station Newstalk, adding that it is uncertain whether Trump will impose a blanket tariff or make it sectorial, but emphasized the importance of focusing on "what we can do at home."

The ECB president also claimed that the rising uncertainty amid trade wars makes investments in the US markets "less attractive" and noted that it is important to "stop and hold" until there is more certainty.
