Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday to immediately support a ceasefire proposal brokered by US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
"Israel must publicly and immediately accept the outline published by American mediator Steve Witkoff," Lapid wrote on X. He reminded Netanyahu that he has "a full safety net" to endorse the deal, regardless of resistance from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir or Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
Lapid's comments come after Hamas agreed to a long-term ceasefire plan with Witkoff, which reportedly includes a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and unrestricted humanitarian aid.
