Laura weakens to Category 3 hurricane - NHC

Hurricane Laura has weakened to a Category 3 storm several hours after making landfall in Louisiana, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Thursday.

The storm is currently moving northward over southwestern Louisiana, while catastrophic storm surge, extreme winds, and flash flooding continued in the Texas-Louisiana border area.

Laura made landfall earlier in the day as a Category 4 hurricane after thousands of residents were forced to evacuate.
