Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed on Friday that Washington is showing signs of realism in discussions over Ukraine, unlike European allies who continue to insist on a full Russian withdrawal to the post-Soviet borders.
"American officials are already publicly saying that the territorial issue is inevitable and must be resolved based on reality," Lavrov stated, going on to condemn Europe for "stubbornly and, frankly, foolishly" repeating that Russia must return to the 1991 lines. The diplomat emphasized the need for realism in dialogue with the United States, noting that Washington has shifted its stance in the past.
"When I look at real-world developments, I sense that the Trump administration is acting based on national interests -and that has always been our approach. We've never lectured anyone," Lavrov added.
