Sudan army rejects Ramadan truce

EPA-EFE/STRINGER

Sudan's armed forces on Sunday firmly rejected the possibility of a truce during the upcoming Ramadan, stating that it can only be considered if supporters of the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) adhere to the terms agreed upon in Jeddah in May 2023.

The military insisted that the RRF must vacate residential areas and civilian facilities for a ceasefire to be implemented during the Muslim holy month. The Sudanese army, open to negotiations, emphasized that the conditions for any truce remain unchanged, requiring the other party to fulfill its obligations under the existing agreement.

This announcement comes in response to the UN Security Council's resolution on March 8.
