Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized on Thursday that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program has no viable alternatives and that any speculation on a "Plan B" or other options is irresponsible and could lead to escalation of the conflict in the region.
In an interview with Ria News, Lavrov reiterated that Russia previously proposed the Collective Security Concept for the Gulf Region as a means of long-term normalization in the region, which is currently being considered by Gulf states. The latest update of the proposal, presented in 2019, seeks to establish a subregional collective security system.
The remarks come shortly after Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian confirmed during his visit to Oman that the window for an agreement won't always remain open.
