Le Maire: World entered new era of globalization

French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire remarked on Friday during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos that the planet has entered "a new era of globalization" with the focus moved from a "market-driven one" to a "political power-driven" situation.

Le Maire spoke against fragmentation and in favor of cooperation and fair competition. He stressed that the EU's stance is "China cannot be out, China must be in," which is different from the United States' attitude. Le Maire also pointed out that no country should put itself first and that the whole world should adopt the "climate first" policy."

Le Maire noted that in the past three years, the European Union has become a "super-political power" like the US and China. He noted that developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's military operation in Ukraine showed that Europe can defend its interests and will remain united.
