White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified during a Fox News interview on Wednesday that existing tariffs on Chinese goods will remain in place, debunking earlier media speculation.

"He [Trump] is not going to give up on ensuring that there are fair trade practices around the world. He is not giving up on the fact that China has been ripping off the United States of America for far too long," she stressed. "There will be no unilateral reduction in tariffs against China. The president has made it clear, China needs to make a deal with the United States of America."

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration was considering cutting the tariffs imposed on Chinese goods by half.
