Lebanon's Ambassador to Russia Shawki Bou Nassar told Tass that Beirut "does not know" when Iran will retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and added his country wants to avoid a regional escalation.
"Whether Iran will respond or not, we certainly cannot say, because the decision is made in Tehran. But what we hear in the media is that Iran promises to respond to this Israeli aggression," the ambassador said, stressing that the escalation of the conflict would not be in anyone's interest.
At the same time, Nassar warned that the risk of a full-fledged war is "constantly present" and said the resolution of the conflict in Gaza is important for preventing such an outcome. The ambassador concluded by saying the end of the conflict is in "the hands of the Israeli government."
