Following the ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that determined the United States broke trade regulations by imposing tariffs on Chinese goods in 2018, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said on Tuesday the WTO is "completely inadequate" to address Beijing's unfair trade practices.
In a statement, Lighthizer said the WTO offered no remedy for China's "misconduct," while adding Washington must be allowed to defend itself against unfair trade practices. The WTO ruling also highlights the need for reform of the organization, he added.
The Trump administration can repeal the WTO's decision within the next 60 days.
