Chinese Vice Premier and chief trade negotiator Liu He said that he is "cautiously optimistic" about his country reaching a phase one trade agreement with the United States, media reported.
The Chinese official also noted he is "confused" about some US demands but expressed hope the agreement can be struck, nevertheless, Bloomberg said citing sources who attended a dinner in Beijing where Liu held a speech.
Liu's comments come after reports emerged the two sides may not finalize the phase one deal before the end of the year. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump insisted that he "likes what's happening right now" on the trade front and that Beijing wants the agreement more than Washington.
