The negotiations with drug distributors hit a wall on Friday at the Northern District of Ohio, lawyer Paul Hanly said on behalf of thousands of local authorities in the United States which sued them and pharmaceutical producers for the opioid crisis. US states were apparently more inclined to settle where the figure was said to have been in the vicinity of $18 billion.
A trial with claims from the counties of Cuyahoga and Summit is now scheduled to begin on October 21. AmerisourceBergen Corp., Cardinal Health Inc., McKesson Corp., Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Henry Schein Inc. and Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc were participating in the talks.
The federal case concerns 400,000 deaths officially registered between 1999 and 2017.
