Former Austrian Finance Minister Hartwig Loeger (pictured) will serve as the interim chancellor until a new transitional government is formed, President Alexander Van der Bellen confirmed in a speech on Monday.
Speaking after Austria's parliament passed a vote of no-confidence in Chancellor Sebastian Kurz's government earlier in the day, Van der Bellen said that it will cease work at 11:30 am CET on Tuesday, at which time Kurz will be replaced by Loeger. However, he clarified that all other ministers will remain in their posts until the next elections. Van der Bellen added that he invited all of Austria's main political parties to form a transitional government and nominate a new interim chancellor, who will then serve until the country's next elections in September.
