Major European stock exchanges slumped at the open on Thursday seemingly affected by Wall Street's sell-off, as earnings continued to arrive. AstraZeneca, Lloyds, TotalEnergies and Unilever were the latest in line to share their quarterly results. Meanwhile, in data, investors will be looking at the German business climate.
At the beginning of the session, the CAC 40 plunged 1.37%, with STMicroelectronics nosediving 8.44% at 9:01 am CET. The DAX fell 0.88% at 9:00 am CET, with Airbus down 1.09% a minute later. The Euro Stoxx 50 tumbled 1.20% at the opening bell, as Stellantis plummeted 7.86% at 9:01 am CET. The FTSE 100 started the session with a 0.46% loss, as Fresnillo declined 3.87% at 9:02 am CET.
The euro was flat against the dollar at 8:59 am CET, changing hands for 1.08365. At the same time, the pound traded 0.17% below the greenback, going for 1.28851.
