Lufthansa pilots back industrial action over wages

Lufthansa pilots voted on Sunday in favor of seeking a pay rise via industrial action, the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union said.

The union supported the goals of the Group Collective Bargaining Commission as 97.6% of Lufthansa pilots voted in favor of seeking "appropriate and balanced remuneration in the cockpit," primarily compensation for "the loss of real wages."

"We now need a modern and fair, internationally competitive compensation structure in all occupational groups," VC board member Marcel Groels stated. The union will not immediately enter a strike but will start new talks with the airline in which it will demand a 5.5% pay rise this year. Earlier this week, the airline's ground staff went on strike.
