Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko ordered troops sent to the country's southern border to return to their permanent bases, according to the BelTA news agency.

This decision follows a reduction in tensions with Ukraine after a recent escalation that prompted Belarus to bolster its border security with military units.

"Right now we don't have any tensions with Ukrainians and I hope there won't be any going forward," the state-owned agency cited Lukashenko as saying.
