The Russian-made "Oreshnik" missile system will be deployed in Belarus before year's end, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced during a formal Independence Day celebration on Tuesday.
"In Volgograd, we agreed with the 'big brother', Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, that the first positions of 'Oreshnik' will be in Belarus. You saw the work of 'Oreshnik'. By the end of the year, these weapons will be deployed in Belarus," the politician said.
According to the State Secretary of the Security Council, Alexander Volfovich, technical work is in progress and suitable missile deployment sites are being identified. Volfovich declined to specify the amount of Oreshnik systems that Belarus intends to position within its borders.
