Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (pictured) recalled the country's Ambassador to Israel Frederico Meyer for consultations, Brazilian media reported on Monday, citing officials with knowledge of the matter.
The move comes after Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz declared Brazilian head of state persona non grata after Lula compared the current situation in the Gaza Strip to the Holocaust.
Later in the day, Katz stressed that Lula will not be welcome in Israel until he "apologizes and retracts his antisemitic words of incitement which he hurled at the Jewish people."
