Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the country was getting ready to respond to the United States' new 50% tariff measure, while also working to protect its economy, businesses and workers.
Lula said his government remains open to dialogue but stressed that only Brazilians shape the country's path. "The ones who determine Brazil's direction are the Brazilians and their institutions," he stressed.
The comments came briefly after US President Donald Trump said he is open to talking to Lula.
