French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the renewal of Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip and called for a return to the ceasefire.

"I just spoke with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. I welcomed his initiative in Jeddah, which enabled peace negotiations to begin in Ukraine," Macron said on X before moving on to write about Gaza. "We must return to the ceasefire. This is essential for the release of all hostages and the protection of civilians," Macron stressed. Israel said on Wednesday it launched a "targeted ground operation" in the central and southern parts of Gaza after it resumed strikes on Tuesday.

"I welcomed the work carried out by Saudi Arabia with its Arab partners on a credible framework for the day after in Gaza, which must form the basis of the discussions," the French president said. "The two-state conference, which we will co-chair, must help to reopen a political horizon for the benefit of both Israelis and Palestinians," he added.
