French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Tuesday that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away at 88 after a stroke. Speaking from Reunion Island to BFMTV, Macron said: "We will be at the Pope's funeral as we should".

US President Donald Trump also announced his plans to attend. However, the date of the funeral has yet to be determined, as Cardinals are meeting today to finalize it.

The ceremony will take place at Saint Peter's Basilica and is expected between the fourth and sixth day after the Pope's passing, likely between Friday and Sunday. According to Vatican procedures, the conclave to elect the new pope will begin between 15 and 20 days after his death.
