French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that Ukraine's allies are considering a "reassurance force" consisting of troops from several countries deployed to "pre-identified strategic locations" in Ukraine as part of security guarantees after a peace deal with Russia.
Macron said the force would act as a deterrent against any potential Russian aggression in the future but would not be a peacekeeping mission and would not substitute the Ukrainian military. The proposal was put forward by France and the United Kingdom and would require a "long-term support agreement" with Ukraine.
