French President Emmanuel Macron urged European countries to take a tougher stance against Israel until the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip improves.
"European countries should harden their collective position against Israel if there is no response in line with the humanitarian situation in Gaza in the coming hours and days in the Gaza Strip," Macron stated during a press conference in Singapore on Friday ahead of the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference.
Ahead of a June 18 UN summit on the topic, Macron underlined that recognizing a Palestinian state was "not simply a moral duty, but a political requirement," while enumerating several prerequisites for doing so.
