French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that his country does not want the Ukraine war to end with Kiev's capitulation and called on "increasing war efforts."
"We want peace, but not a ceasefire that would be a capitulation of Ukraine," Macron insisted as he answered questions from the public in a live address, adding Ukraine "resisted tremendously, but the situation is worrying" with the United States and Russia negotiating on a potential ceasefire without Kiev's involvement. Reflecting on the recent developments in the Ukraine war, the French president warned that "we are entering a new era" and stressed the need to "strengthen our defense and our security."
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky complained about not being invited to talks between US and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, while US President Donald Trump claimed he "could have come" to the meeting if he wanted to.
