Malaysia said to step up Nvidia chip oversight

Malaysia will tighten semiconductor regulations amid US concerns that high-end Nvidia chips are reaching China despite trade restrictions, the Financial Times reported, citing Trade Minister Zafrul Aziz.

Aziz said Washington is pressuring Malaysia to closely monitor chip shipments and ensure they remain in designated data centers. He added that US authorities suspect Nvidia chips are being rerouted through Malaysia to China, though no direct evidence has been found.

A task force, formed with Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, is reportedly slated to strengthen oversight of Malaysia's data center industry, which relies on Nvidia chips.
