The court in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ordered on Monday former Prime Minister Najib Razak to prepare his defense for corruption charges related to the country's investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The judge asserted his involvement in the case as "pervasive and imperious," announcing the court will proceed with the first trial.
Najib denied all the charges before the court that investigates seven corruption charges against him with the focus on controversial transfer of $13.8 million to his account from SRC International Sdn, former 1MDB unit. However, the prosecutors convinced the High Court judge Mohamad Nazlan Mohamad Ghazali who underlined that "the accused had enormous and overarching influence" over the state-controlled fund.
In July, the former head of the Malaysian government was arrested and charged for criminal breach of trust and corruption.
