"We've got to get movement from the White House and we don't have any movement yet," United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said on Friday when asked about the progress of the debt ceiling negotiations.
"Yesterday I felt we were at the location where I could see the path," the House speaker told reporters, stressing that the country cannot afford to spend more money next year. "We have to spend less than we spent the year before. It's pretty easy," McCarthy added.
Republican negotiators allegedly decided earlier today to put off talks with White House officials as they were not "productive," according to GOP Representative Garret Graves. The United States House Freedom Caucus previously demanded to pause the negotiations until the Senate passes the Republican debt plan.
