MediaTek CEO addresses geopolitical risks amid rising tensions

MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai acknowledged on Wednesday that managing geopolitical risks is a "very difficult subject," particularly with upcoming elections and ongoing US-China tensions.

During an earnings call, Tsai emphasized that the Taiwan-based chip designer has a robust compliance program to navigate international regulations and avoid risky actions. "This is of course a very big and a very difficult subject, and I don't think any company can elaborate on this risk very well, not to mention critical elections are coming in one week, so I will not comment on the specific risk," he said.

While MediaTek's shares have risen 27% this year, potential risks loom with the US elections, as candidate Donald Trump has criticized Taiwan for "stealing" US chip business and proposed tariffs.
