Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni urged Israel on Tuesday not to fall into a retaliation "trap," after the latest fire exchanges with Hezbollah.

Speaking in China, Meloni stressed that she is "very very worried" about the events currently unfolding between Israel and Lebanon, calling on the international community to continue sending messages of moderation that would lead to deescalation. Given its good ties with Iran and Saudi Arabia, she also called on China to join these efforts.

Following recent launches from Hezbollah, Israel's Golan Heights was hit. While the latter blames the militant group for the strike, the former said it had no intention to target the region, adding that the incident occurred due to an Iron Dome malfunction.
