German auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz recalled around 400, 000 cars in the United Kingdom over faulty airbags. The airbags are said to activate by themselves prematurely and owners have been instructed to inspect the warning light, a statement from the company said. If it blinks without reason, they should contact their dealer about the repair as soon as possible, it underscored.
The issue is said to impact some A, B, C, and E-Class models, together with CLA, GLA and GLC vehicles, which are made between November 2011 and July 2017. "The fix takes around one hour and the work will be performed free of charge," said a representative of Mercedes parent company Daimler. The car manufacturer plans to contact clients affected by the airbag malfunction.
In the official statement, they also added that this case is not related to the Takata exploding airbags incident and that no fatalities have been reported. The massive recall of airbags manufactured by Takata has been the largest in history, leading to the recalling of 53 million vehicles.
