German Chancellor Friedrich Merz argued, in a post on X, that there was "no reason" to criticize Israel's attack on Iran and the United States for bombing that country's nuclear facilities on Saturday.
"It is not without risk. But leaving it as it was was not an option either," he wrote.
Merz previously urged Tehran to resume nuclear talks with the US, while repeating that Iran cannot obtain nuclear weapons. At the same time, the German chancellor faced criticism from certain quarters over his remark describing attacks on Iran as the "dirty work Israel is doing for all of us."
