German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will travel to Washington DC next week for a meeting with United States President Donald Trump, German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said on Saturday.
Merz will visit the White House on Thursday, June 5, where he will discuss a range of issues with Trump, including trade and the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The visit comes amid new tensions in relations between the European Union and the US after Trump announced an increase in steel and aluminum tariffs, with the European Commission claiming the move "undermines ongoing efforts" to reach a trade deal with Washington.
