Macron: Tariff pause 'fragile'

French President Emmanuel Macron asserted on Friday in a post on X that while the postponement of the United States tariffs opens the door for negotiations, the pause is also "fragile," as the 25% duties on steel, aluminum, and automobiles, alongside a 10% on all other products, are still in place.

"This 90-day pause means 90 days of uncertainty for all our businesses, on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond," Macron went on to say, adding that the European Union countries intend to negotiate until "unfair" levies are removed and until a "balanced" deal has been reached.

"Europe must continue to work on all necessary countermeasures and mobilize all available levers to protect itself, [and] also to prevent flows from third countries from unbalancing our market," the French president stated.
