Meta announced on Tuesday that its Meta Spark platform, which supports third-party augmented reality (AR) tools and content, will be discontinued on January 14, 2025.
The move will render AR effects created by external developers and brands unavailable across Meta's apps. However, AR effects developed by Meta will remain accessible. According to the company's release, the decision is part of Meta's broader strategy to focus on products that are better aligned with future consumer and business needs.
"We are deeply grateful to the community of creators, businesses, and other key stakeholders who have been part of the Meta Spark journey. When we first launched this platform seven years ago, experiences infused with augmented reality were new to most consumers," the company added.
