Meta launches Threads, a Twitter-like messaging app

META

Meta Platforms Inc. announced Wednesday the official launch of Threads, a microblogging app that directly challenges Elon Musk's Twitter.

Although the app had already started allowing some posts earlier this week from people like CEO Mark Zuckerberg and celebrities, it was launched to users worldwide on Wednesday.

"Instagram is where billions of people around the world connect over photos and videos. Our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas," Meta said in the description of the application, which is now available for free download on Apple's App Store and Google Play in more than 100 countries.
