Meta removes thousands of Chinese 'spamouflage' accounts

Meta Platforms Inc. revealed on Tuesday in its Adversarial Threat Report that it has deleted thousands of Facebook accounts related to a widespread online Chinese spam operation, labeled "Spamouflage."

"We removed 7,704 Facebook accounts, 954 Pages, 15 Groups and 15 Instagram accounts for violating our policy against coordinated inauthentic behavior. This network originated in China and targeted many regions around the world," Meta said.

The company further explained that these accounts mostly posted "positive commentary about China and its province Xinjiang and criticisms of the United States, Western foreign policies, and critics of the Chinese government including journalists and researchers."
