Meta Platforms Inc.'s new Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang is supposedly considering shifting from the company's open-source AI model called Behemoth to a closed-model, the New York Times reported on Monday.
The media outlet cited sources with knowledge of the matter, saying that Meta is exploring the possibility of abandoning their strategy of open-source, despite advocating for open AI developments for years. According to the New York Times, no decision has been made yet.
The company delayed the release of Behemoth due to "poor internal performance," the news platform reported, adding that teams working on the model stopped conducting tests after Meta announced the formation of the so-called superintelligence lab last month.
