European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Jordan's King Abdullah II signed a strategic partnership agreement on Wednesday in Brussels, strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Backed by a €3 billion financial package for 2025–2027, the deal aims to enhance political, security, and economic ties while addressing shared challenges in the Middle East.
According to a statement, the partnership focuses on advancing peace, security, and human rights while promoting economic growth through investments in green initiatives and digital innovation. It also aims to strengthen Jordan’s defense capabilities and cooperation in countering terrorism and cyber threats.
An EU-Jordan summit will now be held biennially. "Europe deeply values this partnership. Your resilience and commitment to regional stability are remarkable. Europe will remain at your side through thick and thin," Von der Leyen said praising Jordan's role as a key regional ally.
