Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday that electric car maker Tesla Inc. could establish a new manufacturing site in one of the eastern states of Hidalgo and Nuevo Leon.

Commenting on Tesla's plans to set up a new Gigafactory in Mexico, Lopez Obrador told reporters that these two states remain a possibility.

Nuevo Leon was reported last month as the state which will host Tesla's new automobile plant. However, the tech giant is yet to reach a definitive agreement with the country's authorities.
