Microsoft Corp. President Brad Smith urged United States President-elect Donald Trump to take a stronger stance against allegedly state-sponsored cyber attacks, specifically ones targeting the US from Russia, China and Iran.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Smith emphasized that cyber security should play a larger role in international relations. He went on to call for action against cyber threats targeting the US government systems and businesses, arguing that Trump ought to send a "strong message" to those launching such attacks against the country.
"We should not tolerate the level of attacks that we are seeing today," Smith was quoted as saying. He reportedly praised the Biden administration's progress in strengthening cyber defenses but stressed that further measures are necessary. "There's s more steps that are needed, especially in dissuading and deterring these other countries from unleashing these cyber attacks," he concluded.
