The United States approved Microsoft Corp.'s export of advanced AI chips to the United Arab Emirates as part of its collaboration with Emirati AI firm G42, Axios reported, citing sources.
Microsoft reportedly committed $1.5 billion to its collaboration with G42, which includes plans to establish two AI institutes in Abu Dhabi, advancing the UAE's ambitions to lead in AI innovation.
The partnership reportedly drew scrutiny from lawmakers who worry about the potential risks of Chinese access to advanced technology, as G42 faced allegations of links to Chinese firms involved in military research. It was previously reported that Microsoft was looking to cut back on providing the Emirati firm with any intellectual property over worries about its relations with Beijing.
